SSS

Okay. So. I knit a sock. This isn't the first sock I knit; the first pair was back in June and it like to killed me. For real, it almost put me off knitting forever. But I stuck it out, ya know? And then, for some reason this past weekend, I started getting this urge to knit a pair of socks...I dunno what's with me, but I had the pretty turquoise sock yarn from senior trip, so I went at it. And last night, I had a sock. (And a lot of stuff on my desk...)
But now...I have absolutely no desire to knit the other one. See, here's the thing. I know that after you wear a pair of handknit socks, you're supposed to never want to go back to store-bought socks. But I like store-bought socks. My handknit socks...not so comfortable...kinda itchy...And I don't like the way this one looks on my foot...I dunno...I like to just look at it, sitting there on my anthro. books, and be all like, "yeah, I knit a sock..." and I like when people came in my room and were like, "you're knitting a sock??"...but I just don't like wearing it...And it's not going to fit anyone else..So really, I'm wondering if I should even make the other one..At this moment..I'm thinking I'll just wait til the urge to knit socks hits me again..should be about 6 months..then I'll have a pair. Right now, I figure life's too short. Might as well knit another washcloth...

By the way, this is likely the last post for a while..or at least the last one with pictures...My anthropology final is tomorrow, and after that I'll be heading home to dial-up in the boonies...Dial-up and Blogger have been notorious for not getting along in the past..So unless I make it to a Krystal (which is tempting), you'll probably have to wait until January to see the huge stack of dishcloths I'm going to work on. And the progress I'm going to make on the mitered square blanket. I haven't forgotten it! It's at home! Where I am going to be..shortly! I've been counting down the hours until that final is over. Right now, it's 24.67...Then I'll be free! I'm going book shopping tomorrow afternoon! Yay! Also last weekend, besides the wierd sock urge, I had a strange desire to read a biography, something that would make me feel smart. I'm leaning towards Audrey Hepburn.

Lazy

I finished another washcloth, but I don't feel like getting up and taking a picture of it..so I'll just post a picture of it halfway finished.. and a sideways picture at that..oh well..

I have nothing to do for the next four days except study anthropology. Woo-hoo. I have to ace that final.

In One Week...

I will be turning this

into this

another view
That is only a portion of my dishcloth cotton collection; the rest is at home. It's not all tangled, at least not as bad as it looks all piled on my bed. But yeah, that's my Christmas break goal, use all the dishcloth cotton stash making warshrags for my (as of yet invisible) hope chest. We'll see how many ballbands I can do before I get completely burned out on them. And I still have my mitered square blanket (I left it at home on purpose after Thanksgiving so it couldn't distract me here, and to build my anticipation to knit some more on it) and I've got that sock yarn from senior trip. Oh yay! Blissful, guiltfree knitting. Coming soon!

1. Open Mouth 2. Insert Foot

So. I went to my sister's middle school band and chorus Christmas concert tonight. There were a couple of motives. First, to see my sister play, of course, because that's the kind of supportive sister I try to be. Ha. And second, because I needed my red sweater which was at home to wear to my handbell choir performance Saturday night. So, after the concert (have you been to a middle school concert? Middle schoolers are at such an awkward time in their lives. Have you ever noticed?) my family went to McDonald's (Donald's Place, as I used to call it when I was 3, apparently) and as we were leaving, I was like, "Oh, I need to get my sweater." My mom, trying to act like she forgot it, said something like 'your sweater?'. And I replied, "Umm, yeah, the whole reason I came." Oops. Sorry Sara. I love you! I apologized profusely. Actually, I think I said something like, "well, half the reason I came", which was also not the right thing to say. Honestly, I did go to the concert to see Sara; if I'd just wanted the sweater, I could have just went home and got it and saved that hour of my life. But I didn't. I did the sister thing. I don't think she's really mad. I don't think. Hey, her Christmas present which I bought today will more than make up for it; she wanted a Berry hoodie--those things are $45--ridiculous..

So, it's been a while since I've posted. It's been so busy. And finals start next week, Ahh! I took the blanket home last weekend and did another square. I don't have a picture cause I left all the stuff at home, knowing I would have no time to work on it for the next few weeks. Tomorrow night I am hoping to get some knitting time in, work on some of the dishcloth cotton under my bed, lol. Maybe watch a movie. Nice. Who gonna accuse me of not having a life? Huh? What'd ya call middle school band concerts and knitting in your dorm room on a Friday night?

By the way, how awesome was Gilmore Girls?? I about squealed all the way through. Loved it! The script seemed like it was more like the way it used to be, snappier than it has been. Theory on Lorelai and Christopher: their Paris marriage isn't legal in the U.S. There has to be hope for Luke, he's getting back to his old self! Mercy, I love that show.

What Can I Say...

I just made the first two comments on a Mason-Dixon post... Just thought I'd let everybody know.
Okay, for real. It's past my bedtime. I did 2/3 of my statistics homework wrong the first time, is the only reason why I'm still up. Friday is my sleep late day (7:30), so I guess it'll be okay. Today started off rough and ended that way, too, but everything in the middle was really good.

edit: btw, it was 11:30 last night when I was writing this, not 8:30.

Christopher Stinking Columbus

Who watched Gilmore Girls last night??? I did, at nine. Had to tape it because I went to the jazz band's concert (which was pretty much amazing, not gonna lie). Sigh..I miss jazz band..I don't miss getting up at 5:30 in the morning to go to jazz band, but I miss the music part. I'm in handbell choir here, and well. It's fun, but it's not the same. It's pretty hard, actually. Anyway.
Gilmore Girls. Oh my goodness, it ended and we were all screaming "No!!!"..haha..My roomie and I get pretty into GG b/c it's honestly the only thing we watch on t.v. Sometimes we pop in a movie on the weekend, but other than that, nada. Well, ok, she watches the weather channel for "local on the 8's" or whatever it's called. I don't b/c I'm usually gone before she gets up in the morning...
Ahh! I can't believe it! The preview for next week's episode was so funny..can't wait!!
This entry is basically the result of not wanting to do my stat hw. Doing my stat hw is about to be the result of not having anything else to write...

ten years later..

I finally finish another square.
Christmas-y...
Christopher Columbus, I have been so stinking busy the past few weeks...In a month, the semester will be over..cue hallellujah chorus..

Just in Time for Halloween

Is this sweet orange and brown square..this makes my count 7..8..??

I left a comment on Ann's entry about her new fancy-smancy shoes, and it reminded me of my own new shoes..
They're not the least bit girly..They look like old man shoes, but they're really comfortable. And they look pretty cute with jeans. Which is all that counts, really. Of course, girly heely shoes look cute with jeans too...that's next on my shoe wish list!

Linkage

I got all computer savvy and figured out how to do the link thing on the sidebar all by myself. This is a big thing for me, I am very proud of myself right now!

It's raining! Ahh..and this morning, I walked outside, realized all three of my umbrellas were in my car, went to the WRONG parking lot, had to go to the other one to get to my car..and then still had to walk half a mile in the pouring down rain. I really hope it stops before tonight and doesn't rain out my old high school's football game that I've been planning to go to since, I dunno, July. And the band comp. tomorrow..sigh..

I'm in the computer lab now, but later when I'm in my room I'll post pictures of the sweet garter stitch scarf I made last night to console myself for the not-so-good one.

Wonky

That's what the scarf I knit is..kinda wonky. Well, there's no kinda about it. I'm choosing to think of it as a design feature..yeah, it's supposed to do that..and everyone who's seen it thinks it's cute. I'm giving it to my sister..early Christmas/birthday present. Can you believe Christmas is less than two months away??!! Yay!

Up close with the fringe...

Now it's all wrapped up and ready to be given to my sister tonight when I see her at piano lessons..I think she'll like it..The tissue paper and yarn from the project being a bow is basically how I wrap all handknit projects I'm giving as gifts..it's pretty much standard wrapping procedure around here..

This is rather dull I'm afraid but my brain is pretty much fried from two tests today and one yesterday..I think I'm going to take a nap..

P.S. Obviously the gimp arm from yesterday did not hold me back any..

My Arm is Rather Limp Today

I got a flu shot today..so my upper arm is sore. (It is really hard to take a picture of your right arm when you are right-handed!)
I took an anthropology test--wrote nonstop for an hour--so my wrist is sore.
Which stinks, because I really want to work on this:

It's a scarf I want to wear this weekend when I go to the football game and the band competition. It looks all ruffly cause it's bunched up on the circular needle. I think it's gonna be narrowish, so I just want to finish this color-pattern-repeat thing (basically, three more rows of yellow, purple, and blue each). Which doesn't sound like much unless you consider that each row takes 15-20 minutes..yeah..And I have two test tomorrow, but after that, I'm chillin'..can't wait!

Good things that happened today:

1. The sky was so beautiful this morning when I walked outside! The clouds were all pink and purple. It was glorious. I didn't have my camera.

2. I caught the class bus. The class bus reminds me of the Knight Bus in Harry Potter. I think there's like a special hand signal you're supposed to give to make it stop. And it flies around really fast. But it's very nice to save that twenty minute walk..especially when it's cold outside.

3. I went to Subway to eat lunch with my parents, and when I got back, I got a parking place in Heaven. Heaven is what we call the good parking lot, there aren't that many spaces. The lot next to Heaven is Purgatory. The name of the bad one? I think you get the idea. It was pretty much amazing. I think a lot of people drove because it was so cold out. To me, it just seems easier to walk than to wait for the car to defrost, drive down, find a parking spot, and then walk to class. It's quicker, too.

No. 6

The initial inspiration for this square was a sunflower. It has since been described as Belle, a rotten banana (you can google that image on your own), and Mayfield's Ice Cream. I think I like the Mayfield's comparison the best.

Tonight, me and Hannah have planned a run to Michael's followed by knitting, scrapbooking, and a movie (probably Narnia). We were going to go see Marie Antoinette, but it's not in theaters here yet. We're going to try to catch it in two weeks when I go home with her. Excitement. Okay, funny story. Our friend went to go see "The Prestige" last night, and he said it was really sad all the way through. Hannah was like, well, we're going to see "Marie Antoinette", and it won't be as sad. To which I replied 'do you know what happened to Marie Antoinette??' It was pretty funny. You probably had to be there.

Everyone have an amazing weekend, I'm going to study!

Lurvely Day

That was me being sarcastic...it's rainy and cold, and it has been all week...I tried to take a picture of the gloominess, but it photographed too not cold and rainy.

I absolutely love Kenny Chesney's new song, "You Save Me". (How long has it been since he sang a song not about the beach??) It came on the radio after I drove up here about an hour ago and I just sat in my car and listened to it...ahh...

When I'm a bullet shot out of a gun
When I'm a firecracker coming undone
When I'm a fugitive ready to run
All wild-eyed and crazy
Baby you save me

LOVE IT!

Adding to the madness...

Not much new knitting content from me today..but I taught my roommate how to knit last Thursday! It was sorta her birthday present. She is, and I quote, "pretty much obsessed". She's made a coaster (the first project--aww!), a washcloth, and she's got some good progress on a scarf. No kidding, she's a natural. Look, here she is glowing with pride after casting off and weaving in the ends of the coaster.
Well, I would show you a picture, but blogger is not cooperating today...oh well, maybe tomorrow.
Anyway, I've taught probably about 5 other people how to knit, but Hannah's easily the best. I mean, seriously. Okay.
So..this weekend was fall break, I just got back last night, thus the long lapse in entries..And one would think that I could have gotten a lot of knitting done, but I didn't, because pretty much the whole weekend was spent cleaning my room at home...It was quite the ordeal. I threw away/gave away two or three times what I kept...I mean, for real. It was pretty bad. Not like, messy, just cluttered with STUFF I've accumulated over the past 5 years. So much STUFF! I gave away two garbage bags of just shoes. Pretty much amazing. I would have taken before-and-after pictures, but I would be too embarrassed to post pictures of it.
Anyway...it was a nice, rainy weekend. Monday was the perfect weather to do nothing except lay on the couch, eat ice cream, and watch figure skating on t.v. Of course, there was no figure skating on t.v. I did eat some ice cream...Sigh...freshmen fifteen, anybody?

She's Still Got It!

Why is my picture all sideways-y? It's done that before, but not recently..weird..Anyway, this is proof that I haven't completely abandoned knitting (along with proof that the scrapbooking is still going strong, although it is winding down). Two squares completely completed and another cast on for, what-what! Most of the green and orange one was knit while watching "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" with my roommate and two of our other friends. Good times, good times..I was told that this movie would change my life, and it pretty much did..Ha,ha.

So, school has been happening, too. I made a 104 on my music appreciation test!!! YAY!! I was SO excited!
Also, this past weekend was Mountain Day Weekend, which is a really big celebration of Martha Berry's birthday (Martha Berry founded Berry College many moons ago..1902, to be exactish). Part of Mountain Day is the Grand March on Saturday, where all the students walk up and down this big hill holding hands, linking up in twos, fours, eights, and sixteens..It's hard to explain, but really cool in person.

This is the front of the line...being a freshman, I was near the end. The way it works is, the girls and guys are suppoze to be holding hands, but the guy-to-girl ratio is so skewed here that the only the senior girls and especially fortunate junior girls get to hold guys' hands..then the boys run out..lol..but it was ok, it was really fun..

There's me going up the hill on the left, in the khaki capris..

I'd explain more about the most excellent traditions, but it's time for handbell choir practice..

Things to Do...

What I should be doing:

What I want to be doing:

What I have been doing:

Yes, my friends....that is what it looks like...a scrapbook...

I may already be more addicted to it than I am to knitting and reading put together. But I love being all crafty, and I'm really good at collages and stuff. I tried scrapbooking a few years ago, but it was really bad and I swore off it. It was more like crapbooking (which is what I accidentally typed a few words ago. My roommate scrapbooks with a passion. And I've been watching her and seeing how fun it is...and I was looking at all these pictures and momentos I have from high school...and then I was at the Wal-Mart (uh-oh)..and $40 later, this is what I've got...I think this might be more expensive than knitting..yeah, for sure. But it's SO much fun! But it's SO bad for my reading that I'm SO behind on.. Oh well, I guess I deserved one afternoon for a break...I really really want to go to Michael's right now...I need more pages, and some stickers for Thanksgiving and Christmas and....

so..okay

Here's the thing I'm not liking about the no-(well, low)-sew mitered square blanket. There are more rows on the first section of the new block than there are on the first block. (Also not liking the way that is not the way the color looks in real life...kinda wish it was; I think I like this way better..) I think I know why this is happening. First, picking up the stitches for the orange block adds a row, and at the same time it's covering up a row of the tan color. I don't like it! I think I'd rather have to sew all the blocks together than try to figure this one out. And I'm not going to be able to live with it, I'm just too much of a perfectionist. Seriously, ya'll have no idea how much effort went into that first orange section there. It was pretty insane. But I'd rather frog it than be unhapppy with it later. Rip, rip. Plus, trying to plan out these color combinations is taking a lot of the fun out of it. I think it'd be easier to be able to match the squares up later. Much less stress.

Something else I'm not liking: this headache that I've had for three days. Thinking it might be the contacts. But I hope not, cause we were supposed to be getting a good deal and bought 4 boxes!!

Get that yarn away from her..

before she hurts herself!

the bad news: the sock--

is no more...i could already tell there was not going to be enough yarn..but..

the good news: this came today! (it is so fun to get packages when you're at college!!)
yay! i can start the mitered square blanket now!! i know i will need much more yarn than this, but i think it will be best to order it in installments..i'm so excited, ya'll don't even understand..

Moving Right Along

I'm getting pretty good at knitting while reading textbooks..before long I'll have it mastered..the only thing is that it takes me longer to read, because I get distracted..but look at my sock!

And I'm completely loving it..not bored at all! knock on wood...

unBEARably cute kimono

Aww! this is my take on the baby kimono from this book I altered it a little as i went..b/c 1. my bear is not as big as a newborn and 2. b/c i didn't think i was going to have enough yarn..it's lion brand cottonease and i love it..and there was enough, i could have made it longer but i didn't..anyway, i still think it's cute..
and i made the whole thing saturday night..which was exciting b/c if there's one thing i love, it's instant gratification..
my next project is not going to be so instant...

This is the beginning of my Sockoberfest project: kneesocks (!) from the Patons Kroy Socks yarn I got in the only real yarn shop I've ever been in, in Daytona Beach on my senior trip last summer! I have two skeins and I really want it to be enough for kneesocks, cause I really want some!! especially after reading about cara's

at the risk of failing music apprec (that would be a pity) i have to go study now..sigh..maybe knit a few more rows of that ribbing while i'm reading my psychology chapters..

Summer Vacation Warshcloth Fixation

and then some...

this summer, i made about a zillion ninepatch washclothes from the pattern from here (i love these girls!)..since i'm a (poor, broke) college kid, i don't really have any dishes for them, so i use them to wash my face..

The two ballbands on the top and bottom of the first column have been made in the time i've fought for since starting school..as was this one, which i finished last night:

I'm getting just a little tired of making washclothes..i think i'll try to mix it up a little bit..
